Different fields of social sciences

 

The field of social sciences in the upper primary stage consists of subjects like history, geography, political science and economics.


 

v  Geography

Attempts are made to promote an understanding of the interdependence of different regions and countries in geography. At the upper primary stage the scholar will be introduced to the earth as the abode of mankind and other forms of life. 



They will be taught their own region, state and country in a global context. Emphasis will also be placed on contemporary issues such as the global distribution of economic resources, sexuality, affluent groups and the environment.

 

v  History

History as a subject in upper primary stage focuses on the study of Indian history from prehistoric times to the present time which covers the period in the every year step by step. The standard 6 history textbook covers the culture heritage and folklore from the age of discovery to the age of mass, from the establishment of the empire in antiquity. 



The textbook of standard 7 covers the events and happenings of the middle ages. The standard 8 textbook covers the socials/economic and cultural activities of post-independence india from the founding of the east india company.

 

v  Social and political life

This topic focuses on key concepts and knowledge for understanding Indian democracy and the functioning of the economy.



 It emphasizes on the actual functioning of the institutions such as recognizing the role of government in providing public amenities like water, sanitation, roads, electricity etc. and ensuring their availability.
