The pedagogy of mathematics

Mathematics has an important place in school education. It is a compulsory subject at the elementary level. However, people believe that it causes fear, dread and stress in children. Classroom observation reveals that this very way of teaching creates this stress.

Mathematics has helped us to measure our thoughts, to be precise and to use spatial concepts in our daily lives. It is used as a necessary tool in many field, including natural sciences, engineering, medicine and social sciences. Mathematics helps in everyday situations. It also helps to develop logic, abstract thinking and imagination. Thus it has an important place in the school curriculum and it is a compulsory subject till standard-10.
